You cleared your unpaid tickets but your reinstatement letter says you need SR-22 filing. Wyoming's administrative suspension process creates a gap-coverage requirement most college students miss because courts don't explain the difference between resolving the ticket and satisfying DMV's lapse penalty.

Why non-owner SR-22 matters for students without vehicles

Most college students living on campus do not own a vehicle or carry their own insurance policy. If your license was suspended for unpaid tickets and you fall into the lapse-gap penalty category, Wyoming still requires SR-22 filing to reinstate. The filing cannot be added to a parent's policy if you are not a named driver on that policy, and adding you as a named driver often increases the parent's premium significantly. A non-owner SR-22 policy solves this problem. It provides the liability coverage Wyoming requires without insuring a specific vehicle. You can drive borrowed vehicles, rental cars, or rideshare vehicles under the policy, and the SR-22 endorsement satisfies DMV's filing requirement. The policy remains active as long as you pay the monthly premium, and the SR-22 filing remains in effect for the full two-year period Wyoming mandates. If you move out of Wyoming during the two-year SR-22 filing period, your obligation follows you. Wyoming will not release your license or driving record until the SR-22 filing period is complete. If you establish residency in a new state, that state's DMV will contact Wyoming to confirm your record is clear before issuing a new license. If Wyoming shows an active SR-22 requirement, the new state will deny your application until you satisfy Wyoming's requirement or transfer the SR-22 filing to the new state.
